We have had yet another busy week in Year 1, next week will be our last week of this half term. Most of the children have impressed me with their hard work and fantastic attitude to learning.
This week in Literacy we have continued our unit of work looking at Traditional Tales. This week we wrote questions for the characters from the story Little Red Riding Hood. Next week is Black History Week. We have chosen to hook with the African story ‘Handa’s surprise’.
In maths this week we have been measuring using cubes. Some of the children had a go at measuring to the nearest centimetre using a ruler. I was really impressed with how they all measured accurately. Next week we will be focussing upon recognising 2D shapes and their properties.
This week we started our topic ‘London’s Burning’ which is based around the Great Fire Of London. On Thursday morning Year 1 went back in time and had a visit from the famous historical figure Samuel Pepys. Ask your children what they now know about the Great Fire of London.
Our star of the week is Evie Rae. She has had a great attitude to learning all week and always puts in 100%! She impressed with me with her knowledge of the features of a fiction book; was brilliant at measuring; got full marks in her spelling test and always shows 5!
Just a reminder parents evenings are on Wednesday 22ND & Thursday 23rd October. Please access through the online booking system via the link on the school website. If there is a problem please contact the office.
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible and practice spelling’s which will be tested on a Thursday. Learning logs are checked every Wednesday and returned on a Friday.
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Cooke 🙂
