We have had a super last week of this half term in Year 1. The children have really enjoyed our Black History Week focus of Africa.
In Literacy we hooked with the African story ‘Handa’s surprise’. The children really enjoyed the story. They were super at re telling the story orally; describing the fruit and animals with fantastic adjectives and then today they wrote the story for themselves. These were brilliant with fantastic use of time connectives! Please check out the class blog for lots of pictures of the other things we got up to!
In maths this week we have been focussing upon recognising 2D shapes and their properties. The children were great at recognising most 2D shapes and can now describe these shapes by their properties.
Our star of the week is Sonny. He always has such a super attitude to learning. However, this week he blew me away with his fantastic use of vocabulary when re telling the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’.
Just a reminder school is closed on Monday 3rd November due to a staff training day.
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible and work on the targets given out at parents evening.
Have a lovely break!
