We have had as very busy week in year 1 his week with some super learning. On Wednesday we had a visit from Grace Darling… The children learnt all about events which led to her becoming a heroine. They loved getting dressed up and acting out the events of the 7TH September 1838.

In literacy we have continued hooking with the book, ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’, and today the children wrote an independent recount of Mr Grinling’s day. These were superb! The children used some super descriptive vocabulary and connectives to add detail. We showed them off to Mrs Johnston who was very impressed. Next week we will be learning all about proper nouns and hooking with a new text.

In maths we have been focussing on partitioning numbers. Children have been using the language of place value such as digits, tens and units. The children then used written methods to partition into hundreds, tens and units. Next week in maths we will be focussing on the properties of 2D shapes.

This week’s Star of the Week is Joshua! Joshua always puts in 100% in everything he does but this week he worked incredibly hard in maths.

Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings. Please also make sure children bring book bags every day; PE kits MUST be in school on a Monday; spelling test is on a Thursday.

Have a great weekend!

Miss Cooke
