We have had great week in year 1 and enjoyed lots of fun in the snow on Wednesday! Today as part of our seaside topic, we have started to make ice cream which we will finish making next week. The children have been learning all about food hygiene and used basic chopping skills.
In literacy we hooked with the book, ‘The Singing Mermaid’ by Julia Donaldson. Today the children re told the events of the beginning, middle and end of the story through pictures and writing. Next week we will continue to hook with this book, creating our very own mermaids and describing them using adjectives. This is in preparation for us writing our very own mermaid stories! Next week we start learning about verbs and how we use them in a sentence.
In maths we have been the properties of 2D shapes, today Sophia, Deacon, Ophelia and Giselle amazed me with their super sorting of shapes by the number of sides and whether the shapes had curved or straight sides. Next week in maths we will be learning about 3D shapes and their properties.
This week’s Star of the Week is Deacon! Deacon has had a super attitude to learning all week and his snow picture even made it onto the TV in the school entrance!
Please check out our class blog via the website. This is regularly updated with pictures and you can get a real glimpse into what your children have been doing in year 1. The children would also love it if we received comments on our blog about their learning.
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings (apologies this week as I tested the children on the wrong spellings! Although not one of them said anything at the time!) Please also make sure children bring book bags every day; PE kits MUST be in school on a Monday; spelling test is on a Thursday.
Have a great weekend!
