We have had yet another great week of learning in year 1! In literacy we created character profiles for our own mermaid characters and today I was amazed by some superb character descriptions. In Art we also created our settings for our mermaid stories; we will share some of these on our class blog.
In maths we have been introduced to the vocabulary of Multiplication. The children have started to solve multiplication through grouping and some had a go at using the method of repeated addition. This was a new concept for most and everyone had a really good grasp of the method of grouping.
Next week is Maths week across the whole school so we will be doing lots of fun outdoor and indoor cross curricular maths activities. There will be a big focus on symmetry.
Today we had our end of term Gold Book assembly. This half terms stars are Stella, Joshua and Hamza. Stella, for much improved handwriting; Joshua, for super effort in Maths and always challenging himself and Hamza for much improved behaviour both in the classroom and outside and a great attitude to his learning. Well done! Also thank you to all the parents who joined us this afternoon to play our new maths games!
Next Monday Mrs Dennis will be taking Year 1 to the local church as part of their RE topic. Please make sure your child has a warm, waterproof coat and sensible footwear in case of bad weather!
Please check out our class blog via the website. This is regularly updated with pictures and you can get a real glimpse into what your children have been doing in year 1. The children would also love it if we received comments on our blog about their learning.
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings. Please also make sure children bring book bags every day; PE kits MUST be in school on a Monday; spelling test is on a Thursday.
Have a great weekend!
