What a great first week back in year 1! We have been learning all about Fairtrade as it is Fairtrade Fortnight. We have looked at different food packaging and identified which products are fair trade and where they are grown. We also learnt all about how chocolate is made and learnt the reasons why fair trade is important. We then made persuasive posters to show the importance.
In literacy we have started our non-fiction unit of work. We started by identifying the key features of fiction and non-fiction texts. Today we sorted words from an index into alphabetical order. In grammar we have revisited verbs and nouns the children had a great understanding of this and could identify which words were verbs and which were nouns. Next week in Literacy we will be learning about the features of a non-chronological report and learning how to make notes from texts and films.
In maths this week we have been focussing upon time. Children were great at telling the time to O’ clock and half past the hour. Next week in maths we will be focussing upon division using the method of sharing.
This week’s star is Jaiden for a fantastic mermaid story, this was truly wonderful! Jaiden has clearly made great progress in his writing since September.
Please can you return trip letters and monies by Thursday at the latest, thank you to those who already have. Please also check out our class blog via the website. This is regularly updated with pictures and you can get a real glimpse into what your children have been doing in year 1. The children would also love it if we received comments on our blog about their learning. Thank you to all those parents who have been accessing the blog and leaving comments!
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings. Please also make sure children bring book bags every day; PE kits MUST be in school on a Monday; spelling test is on a Thursday.
Have a great weekend!
