We have been continuing learning all about Fairtrade this week. This has included comparing the lives of fair trade farmers and non fair trade farmers. We also made some fair trade cupcakes for the class cake competition. Fingers crossed we win!
In literacy we have continued our non-fiction unit of work. We have been learning about the features of a non-chronological report and we made notes about dinosaurs from a non-fiction text. Today the children did some super independent instructional writing on how to set up a fish tank. The children write clear steps and included lots of time openers.
In maths this week we have been focussing division using the method of sharing. The children were brilliant in grasping this method. Next we will be focussing upon missing number problems.
This week’s star is Asher for a fantastic attitude in towards his learning. He has also made fantastic progress in Read Write Inc.
On Thursday we will be going on our trip to Meanwood Valley Urban farm. Children are to come in school uniform and to wear suitable coats and shoes. Please can you return trip letters and monies by Monday at the latest, thank you to those who already have. Please also check out our class blog via the website. This is regularly updated with pictures and you can get a real glimpse into what your children have been doing in year 1. The children would also love it if we received comments on our blog about their learning. Thank you to all those parents who have been accessing the blog and leaving comments!
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings. Please also make sure children bring book bags every day; PE kits MUST be in school on a Monday; spelling test is on a Thursday.
Have a great weekend!
