We have had a great day today giggling at each other’s funny hair in order to raise money for Comic relief! Joel and Lilly Anna represented Year 1CC in the KS1 ‘funny hair’ competition but unfortunately came as runners up!
We have continued our ‘Animal Kingdom’ topic this week learning all about animals that are vertebrates and invertebrates. The children had a great understanding of this!
On Thursday we had a great time on our trip to Meanwood Valley farm, thank you to Stella’s dad; Eve’s mum and Stathi’s mum for joining us! In Literacy today we wrote some super non-chronological reports about an animal we saw at the farm. We thought about habitats, diet and appearance.
In maths this week we have been focusing on missing numbers in addition and subtraction number sentences. Most of the children grasped the method of using a number line to solve. Next week in maths we will be focusing upon the methods and language of ‘finding the difference’.
This week’s star is Lilly-Anna for super understanding and use of ‘rainbow’ sentences, which she is now applying in her daily written work.
Please also continue to check out our class blog via the website. This is regularly updated with pictures and you can get a real glimpse into what your children have been doing in year 1. The children would also love it if we received comments on our blog about their learning. Thank you to all those parents who have been accessing the blog and leaving comments!
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings. Please also make sure children bring book bags every day; PE kits MUST be in school on a Monday; spelling test is on a Thursday.
Have a lovely weekend!
