Hello,
We have had a fantastic ‘HOT’ and busy week in year 1. On Thursday I was really proud of all the children who were great in our class assembly. We also really enjoyed ‘Sports Day.’ A huge thank you to all the parents who came along, it does mean a lot to the children to have your support.
This week we have been carrying out our end of year maths and reading assessments. I have been really proud of how hard the children have worked and it is great to see how much they have come on since September!
As always please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics. No spellings have gone home this week, just maths homework to practice number facts!

Hope you all have a lovely sunny weekend!

Hello,
We have had another great week year 1 and really enjoyed ‘health Week.’ we have learnt all about what makes a healthy meal. We learnt about the five food groups and designed our own healthy plate. Yesterday we tried lots of foods, some of which the children had never tried before such as courgettes and black olives! We then made our very own pizzas! Which I hope the children enjoyed!
At the start of the week in maths we revisited the months of the year and also finding fractions of shapes. We have also carried our end of year maths assessments. Next week in maths we will be focusing upon number fact problems.
In Literacy this week we wrote instructions on how to make a pizza! These were full of time openers and connectives! I was really impressed with Sophia’s, who is this week’s star of the week!
Next Thursday we have a very busy day! It is our class assembly at 9am in the hall (lines to learn were sent home yesterday in book bags) and in the afternoon at 1:15pm is our sports day. Please try and come along for these if you can.
Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school all next week. Children will also require a coloured T shirt for their house team for Sports day. The children all know which teams they are in. Please come and see me if they are not sure!

Hello,
We have had a fantastic week as always in year 1 with some amazing writing from the children!
At the start of the week in maths we focussed on ordering the days of the week and word problems involving the days of the week. For the remainder of the week we have been focusing on finding fractions of numbers using the method of sharing. The children were brilliant at this! Next week we will be focusing upon finding fractions of shapes.
In Literacy this week we continued with our poetry unit of work. We listened to the poem ‘the Magic Box’ by Kit Wright. We then wrote our own ‘Magic Box’ repeating poems. These were fantastic with some super vocabulary. I was particularly impressed with Zahra’s poem who is this week’s Star of the week.
Today I was blown away by the standard of the children’s writing. They continued a story from the animated film ‘The Switch’. These were super, incredibly imaginative with great story language and well-chosen vocabulary with many of the children including correctly punctuated speech. .
Over the week we have carried out the Year 1 phonics screening test. I have been so proud of how hard the children all tried. We do not as yet know the threshold pass mark, so once this is released I will inform you of your child’s score and whether they passed.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be practising for sports day on dry days! Please make sure your child has PE kits in school at all times. Children will also require a coloured T shirt for their house team for Sports day. The children all know which teams they are in.

Hello,
We have had a great week as always in year 1 with some super work from the children!

At the start of the week in maths we have been focusing on addition and subtraction worded problems, then for the last two days we have focussed on capacity. We have been reading scales measuring in millilitres. The children were brilliant at this! Next week we will be focusing upon finding fractions of quantities and numbers.

In Literacy this week we continued with our poetry unit of work. We looked for rhyming words in famous nursery rhymes and learnt about rhyming couplets. Today the children were given a reading comprehension activity. They were fantastic at using the text to answer questions and most wrote their answers in full sentences!
This week’s Star of the week is Joel. This is for his fantastic effort in maths all week! He also showed great understanding of capacity.

Next week we will be carrying out the Year 1 phonics screening test. This will be done 1:1 by myself. Please try and practice the sounds and words with your child over the weekend. On Tuesday next week the children will be spending Tuesday morning with their new teacher for next year!

Lastly an apology!…Last week the word ‘forty’ had been typed incorrectly on the spellings that went out to both year 1 classes, sorry for this!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
